Lead Service Line Replacement Program
The City of Chippewa Falls takes the issues of lead in drinking water very seriously and because property owners in Chippewa Falls own a portion of the water service line (see illustration below), there is a shared responsibility to manage lead exposure. The Chippewa Falls Common Council will consider Ordinance 2024-13 entitled: Creating Chapter 33 of the Chippewa Falls Municipal Code entitled Lead and Galvanized Private Service Line Replacement.
The intent and purpose of the ordinance is to ensure that the water quality at every tap of a City water customer meets the quality standards specified under federal and state law, to ideally reduce the lead contaminant level to zero and eliminate the constriction of water flow caused by mineral deposits inside of lead pipes. Also to offer residents financial assistance for replacement of eligible services whenever funding is obtained and the program is actively implemented by the City.

Grant and Loan Program
The City of Chippewa Falls has received funding from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources which allows for a 75% grant to aid in the replacement of eligible private lead or galvanized services. Along with the grant, owners can choose to finance the remainder of the replacement over five years.
